about

It is the eve of my 40th birthday as I write this. Birthdays have always felt more like a reset than new year to me. This song has meant especially more to me leading up to this day. Releasing this on my birthday seemed a fitting way to commemorate 4 decades of being ME and being ALIVE.

I'm gonna wax poetic for a bit, you can skip to the bottom if you want.

I've built and broken down many cocoons so far in my life. I love the seasons that begin with a new birth, bursting back into life and flight. A phoenix moth, the windy side of my sun sign, forever wanting to soar.

I know in my bones there are seasons where we keep our feet on the ground, dig in, create our walls and test ourselves. We listen to the lessons that come. Grow, stretch, build. All the way to the eventual moment we realize, "I have outgrown myself" and we need to fight our way into the scary realm of the new. I am still myself. I'm simply now a different version that did not exist until this moment.

It is scary to leave the comfort of what we build to protect ourselves. The walls are thin now, however, and light is visible. It is welcoming, easing us back. We have to do a little clawing and convincing of our limbs to break out, to dig, to escape. We always do in the end.

On the other side, I remember my wings, and they are stronger.
Free, the light is brighter.

I am enjoying this part. This bloom.
This taking off, where everything is possible.

I am so grateful that anything is possible.
Thank you for celebrating with me.

lyrics

I never wanted this
To be stuck inside myself
I built myself a warm cocoon
So I could grow my wings
Now I can't leave

I only want to spread my wings and fly into the light
I forgot inside this chrysalis what it meant to live

Nothing good will come without a fight
As I stretch I remember
That these walls have sheltered me
And my boundaries have long been set
But I've outgrown them

I only want to spread my wings and fly into the light
I forgot inside this chrysalis what it meant to live

And if you hear the rustle of wings
You'll know where to find me
And if you hear the rustle of wings you'll know

about

Angie Lynn Tacoma, Washington

I am a storyteller.

Life is about experiences, mistakes, and lessons. I write primarily about my own struggles, successes, and love; lost and found. It is my goal to be genuine and honest with my listener. I offer you my transparency when I sing, I want for you to find yourself in the words I write, cause we are all part of the same soul.

Let me tell your stories.
